My process is complex, not complicated.

The Process

The initial moment of reaching out for support can be daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to expect from the process. With this in mind, I’ve laid out below some of what you can expect to experience in the process of working with me.

The First Step

The first step in this process is to get in touch with me. It will typically result in a short - around 15 minutes - call and is a chance for me to hear about the scope of the conflict.
During this call I will ask questions such as:

  • What type of conflict is it?

  • Are the other parties interested in trying to talk?

What happens next?

If you decide to retain my services, the next step is generally for me to meet one-on-one with each party to assess the situation and further inform what I design as a peacebuilding process.

What happens if the other party is interested in talking?

  • If they are I will design a joint peacebuilding process

  • If they are not I will design a one-on-one conflict coaching process

  • If they are and you also need personal support then I will design a joint peacebuilding process and I will design one-on-one conflict coaching, or encourage you to join a peer group designed to meet your support needs

Types of appointments

After reaching out, having a quick initial consultation, retaining my services and meeting one-on-one with the parties involved, I will design your peacebuilding process.

One-on-One

You can’t change the other person, but you can control your own behaviour and reactions in a conflict. Gain increased competence and confidence to manage and engage in your interpersonal conflicts through coaching.

I will help you uncover what the issue is, and what is important to you. From there I will support you in coming up with future-focused solutions and strategies for specific problems, which sets the process apart from counselling.

Joint Process

If the other side is willing to sit down and talk, I will facilitate the process as an impartial third party. There are a range of options, from various types of mediation, which will create opportunity to come to agreement about disputed decisions, to facilitated dialogue, which is focused more on building trust and improving relationships. I will design your process to help all parties meet their needs. Size can range from two parties upwards.

Collaborators

I like working on a team because there is depth of experience and opportunity for different perspectives that can meet your needs creatively. In designing your process, or as we go along, it may be that adding a collaborator will help. You may have an idea of someone that I have worked with in the past, or someone else that you wish to work with in addition to me. One option are expert or binding opinions that can be a tool to quickly and fairly resolve a dispute that is an obstacle to moving forward.
